Heaven Is Real was a deeply personal project where I served as the creative director, concept designer, artist and producer, creating a music video for the visionary artist No_4mat. As the industry evolves, I aim to continually expand my skill set, and this project marked my dive into Unreal Engine. My growing interest in real-time rendering and VR/AR capabilities motivated me to learn the engine, and with the help of a talented team of friends, I brought my vision to life.
At the outset, my collaborators were unfamiliar with Unreal Engine. I led a demo, explaining the parallels between traditional CG production and my customized pipeline in Unreal, ensuring a smooth transition into this new workflow. Their enthusiasm and quick adaptability enabled us to jump into production immediately. Despite frequent technical hurdles, the team’s dedication and perseverance kept us moving forward.
This project was a pivotal experience for me, combining my skills as a CG lead, producer, and now art director. I balanced creative direction with responsibilities like client communication, scheduling, and budgeting—all while bringing my artistic vision to life. It was a challenging endeavor, but the sense of accomplishment from overcoming obstacles and producing a meaningful piece made every sleepless night and debugging session worthwhile.
Since completing this project, I’ve gained greater confidence in leading and R&D new workflows while managing all aspects of production. Although I primarily work as a CG lead, this experience gave me a deeper appreciation and empathy for the role of directors in creating exceptional work.
