Happy honday Day - Hornet

Hornet was an exciting blend of real paper stop motion, and fully CG environments, seamlessly integrated to create a magical and cohesive visual experience. Thanks to the incredible collaboration and artistry involved, it’s almost impossible to tell apart which elements were stop motion or CG. Veteran director Peter Sluszka brought an authentic touch by tearing pieces of paper and animating stop motion sequences, such as the blue tunnel shot and the car bursting out of the paper.

As a CG Generalist, my role was to take references from the physical set and recreate them in CG with a high level of fidelity, allowing the cars to interact realistically with reflections and shadows. I integrated car assets into these environments and crafted lighting setups that ensured they looked entirely believable. Additionally, I created extra full CG environments that matched the realism of the recorded footage, such as the paper mountain with gold terrain. With so many creative elements in play, seamless collaboration between the 3D and 2D departments was key to achieving the final result.

This project stands out as one of the most fun and memorable I’ve worked on, not only because of the believability of the final product but also due to the incredible level of artistry and teamwork involved.
